Why Become a Flight Attendant?
It’s April already and I’ve just enjoyed the last day of my vacation, never mind that I’ve been off since the 6th of March and don’t have a trip until the 26th of April!
This is why I love my job. There are some months that everything just works out how you want it to. I bid for BRU & MAD (Brussels & Madrid) and dropped all of them but one trip – well, I have to make some money!
The time off – when it works out is incomparable! I could have picked up better trips, if I’d wanted to. I’d like to fly a TXL (Berlin) one of these days and visit my brother and his family who live there, but this time I needed the time off for personal reasons. I’ve put my 3-year-old son on a raw food diet in hopes of debilitating his autism. And, if any of you have ever tried the raw food diet before – it is a full-time job in itself, at least until you get the hang of it.
He’s doing well, and I can see marked improvements – like he walks up the stairs now like a normal little boy, one foot per stair. He used to do only one stair at a time, reaching with the right foot and bring the left foot to meet on the same stair. He is also looking us in the eye much better and turning to look at you when you call his name! It’s amazing how diet can affect you – sometimes we just don’t really think about what we eat, you know?
I’ve flown with some amazing people – interesting people! One Flight Attendant tipped me on how to avoid Jet Belly (the expansion of your whole body from flying in a compressed tube for hours on end – a normal response) by putting fresh parsley in your water. I swear it works! My pants have not been tight at the end of my trips since I started doing that!
Another F/A told me about liquid oxygen. I originally bought it for my son – to improve the oxygen levels in his cells – but I use it as well. There is no need for melatonin or sleeping pills or anything when you use liquid oxygen – at least not for me. I noticed my energy is better when I’m flying and I rest better on my layovers. As far as my son is concerned, I’ve no doubt it contributes to his alertness and improving attention span.
So why become a flight attendant?
My almost ex-husband says I should stay at home. He doesn’t like that I travel, but then I don’t hear him complaining about the travel benefits either now, do I? And he probably uses them more than I do!
The truth is there are times when you have to work a lot, like the summer months of June & July – and that’s typical because of the summer travel season. But, even then you still have a minimum of 10 days off. Well, with an autistic three-year-old, that’s not enough time off for me. Which is why it is so great that there are so many other months of the year that I can drop time, down to zero hours if I wanted to.
Oh, almost-ex, can’t you see? I am at home!
